National Environmental Supervision Authority is being established

Starting January 1, a new environmental authority will be established under Minister László Gajdos, merging with county government offices by July 1. This authority will have broad powers to ensure clean water, air, and protect biodiversity and climate. It reinstates the ability to appeal county decisions to the central authority, reversing previous regulations that limited appeals to courts. The authority will oversee battery manufacturing and waste management, with the minister appointing its president and up to five deputies. Existing government employees will retain their salaries and benefits despite the merger.
