Óscar Puente: the end of the road for a "loose verse" of the Government
Óscar Puente, the Minister of Transport, unexpectedly resigned following a tragic train accident in Urda that resulted in 69 fatalities. His decision came as a shock, even to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who learned of it before Puente's parliamentary appearance. Puente cited the unsustainable nature of his position after multiple accidents, totaling 116 deaths. Known for his outspoken nature and ideological battles, he was seen as a potential successor to Sánchez. Despite his ambitions, his political career is now on hold until the PSOE holds a congress. Puente, who previously served as mayor of Valladolid, was appointed minister in November 2023 after rejecting earlier offers to join the government. Ana Redondo will succeed him as Minister of Equality.
