Old outdoor swimming pool in Ypres gets new life: swimming with a view of Menin Gate becomes possible again

In Ieper, an old outdoor swimming pool will be revitalized, allowing swimming with a view of the Menenpoort. The pool, which closed 25 years ago, will undergo renovations starting next year as part of flood prevention efforts. The existing pool structure will be preserved while barriers will be removed to connect it with the fortifications. The project aims to manage water flow and prevent flooding in the city center. Additional dredging works are planned for the fortification moats, impacting local traffic. Completion is expected by 2028 or 2029, restoring a nostalgic swimming experience for residents.
