Old fire station from 1967 in Zele is being demolished to make way for a new parking lot

The demolition of the old fire station in Zele, operational since 1967, begins today to make way for a new parking lot. The fire station served as a base for firefighters for decades but became outdated as the fleet expanded to 17 vehicles. A new station was built on the former Friswit site, and firefighters moved there last September. The demolition process will include asbestos removal starting November 9, with the actual demolition in December and site preparation for the parking lot expected to be completed by March 2027. Some elements from the old station, like the emblem and an International vintage fire truck, will be preserved.
