Parking in Dokkum temporarily free, power grid too full for payment machines
The introduction of paid parking in Dokkum has been delayed due to a lack of space to connect parking meters to the power grid. Four parking areas with around 600 spaces were supposed to start charging fees at the beginning of the year, with the municipality expecting €580,000 in revenue. However, the project faced delays due to underestimating preparation needs, including technical setups and public participation processes. The deadline was pushed to October 1, but free parking continued due to issues with the power grid managed by Liander, which is currently overloaded. The municipality has not yet determined how to address the resulting financial shortfall.
