Peter the Great is heading to the scrapyard. Russia must decommission its strongest warship
The Russian heavy nuclear missile cruiser Peter the Great is likely to be decommissioned due to its irreparable condition. A special commission has preliminarily concluded that repairs and modernization are not feasible, as the ship has exhausted its operational lifespan. Originally, modernization was planned to follow the completion of the Admiral Nakhimov cruiser, but delays have pushed the timeline back significantly. Peter the Great, measuring approximately 250 meters and weighing around 26,000 tons, has served as a symbol of Russian naval power since its construction during the Cold War. It has participated in various military operations, including exercises in Venezuela and anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden. With the decommissioning of Peter the Great, Admiral Nakhimov will remain the only active cruiser of its class in the Russian Navy.
