Pinkpop happy with Limburg plans for heritage list: 'Declaration of Love'
The Limburg Provincial Council has voted to explore the possibility of designating the Pinkpop festival as intangible heritage, aiming for UNESCO recognition. Festival director Tirsa Creusen expressed pride in the festival's roots and its significance in connecting generations and boosting local businesses. Pinkpop, established in 1970, is recognized as the longest-running annual festival since 2012. Local associations manage the bars, providing work experience for young people and involving older volunteers. The festival aims to maintain relevance by booking current and future headliners. To achieve heritage status, Pinkpop must first be listed in the Inventory of Intangible Heritage in the Netherlands, a process that could take years.
