Polish highways are already too narrow. Billions for reconstruction, years of disruptions
The construction of Poland's highway network is nearing completion, with only 150 km left. However, existing highways are congested, prompting expansions. The A2 highway between Warsaw and Łódź will undergo reconstruction starting Wednesday, costing 1.3 billion PLN and causing two years of traffic disruptions. The A4 highway also requires urgent widening, particularly between Katowice and Kraków, where traffic is expected to increase significantly after tolls are removed. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) is managing these projects, which will involve complex traffic organization. Despite record growth in highway length, traffic jams persist, and future maintenance costs are projected to exceed new construction expenses.
