The Polish Polar Station Hornsund is undergoing modernization with a budget of over 17.2 million PLN, funded partly by the Ministry of Science. The first phase includes constructing an eco-friendly building to replace an old storage facility. The station aims to utilize renewable energy sources and reduce fossil fuel consumption. The project also involves creating laboratory spaces to enhance international scientific collaboration. The station, operational since 1957, will celebrate its 70th anniversary next year and is currently hosting participants of the 49th Polar Expedition.
