Portugal is not under migratory pressure, says the annual report of the Commission on migrations and asylum
Portugal is not facing migratory pressure, according to the annual report by the Commission on migration and asylum. Most exit orders were issued to citizens from Brazil, India, and Angola. Despite having the second highest number of return alerts relative to GDP and population, Portugal is categorized as not under migratory pressure. The country has 68,310 beneficiaries of temporary protection, mainly due to the Ukraine war, and has increased its accommodation capacity for asylum seekers. Last year, Portugal contributed €8.44 million to the EU solidarity fund instead of accepting 420 asylum seekers, citing structural capacity issues. The Commissioner noted a significant decrease in illegal migration and asylum requests across the EU, with a 55% drop in illegal migration over the past two years.
