PS wants to hear from INE about population statistics

The Socialist Party (PS) plans to request a parliamentary hearing with the National Institute of Statistics (INE) regarding significant revisions in population data. This follows a report indicating over 780,000 people left Portugal between 2021 and 2025, a figure much higher than previous estimates. Deputy Carlos Pereira expressed concerns about the instability of these statistics, which he considers crucial for public policy. He highlighted the alarming trend of young people emigrating, with around 90,000 individuals aged 20 to 40 leaving annually. Pereira emphasized the need for reliable population data to inform effective governance.
