The USA is cracking down on Iranian smuggling routes
The U.S. Central Command is establishing a new task force named Iron Gate to combat Iranian smuggling routes. This group will focus on preventing Iran from transferring weapons and sanctioned goods across the Caspian Sea and land borders. Despite a maritime blockade, Iran has reportedly smuggled over $2 billion worth of equipment and explosives from Russia, Central Asia, and China. Recent limited military strikes against Iran were conducted, targeting a defense system, following the Republican Party's losses in midterm elections, which were partly attributed to the ongoing conflict with Iran and rising gas prices. The need for coordinated action among U.S. agencies has been emphasized.
