236 more migrants rescued on the way to the Canary Islands
Two small boats carrying 236 migrants reached El Hierro, while two more are being rescued nearby. The first boat arrived late Tuesday with 111 people, followed by a second with 125. Rescue operations continue as more migrants attempt to reach Spain via dangerous Atlantic routes. Over 750 migrants have arrived in the Canary Islands since last weekend. Despite a decrease in crossings in recent years, the mortality rate has increased due to longer and riskier routes. In 2025, 17,788 irregular migrants arrived in Spain, with significant fatalities reported by NGOs. The flow of boats typically increases in autumn, with over 5,000 arrivals recorded since October.
