András Simonyi on his recruitment: The connector was constantly on my back
András Simonyi, former ambassador, revealed his past involvement with the secret police during an interview. He was recruited as a student in 1975 under the alias "Mészáros" and worked until 1984. Simonyi claimed he had connections with the Ministry of Interior while working at the Democratic Youth Alliance, where he was pressured to assist them. He stated he never signed any documents or reported anyone, but the Ministry frequently inquired about the organization. He decided to cease his activities in 1983, after which the Ministry began questioning him more. Simonyi suggested that Ministry officials sought his help to travel to the West.
