Start-up entrepreneurs still cannot apply for VAT number after cyber attack: "5,500 files on hold"
Due to a recent cyberattack, it remains impossible for new entrepreneurs to apply for a VAT number online. The tax authority confirmed that while no data was stolen, several applications were suspended as a precaution. The VAT number application system is still not operational, requiring manual processing of requests. New applications can be submitted via email, but this method takes longer. Currently, around 5,500 applications are pending activation, modification, or cancellation of VAT numbers, primarily affecting startups.
