A harsher sentence was requested for the Irish man who strangled an American woman during sex in Budapest

The Budapest Court of Appeals is seeking a harsher sentence for an Irish man convicted of strangling American Mackenzie Elisabeth Michalski during a sexual encounter. The prosecution has requested a prison term of 15 to 20 years, which would be imposed if the court agrees. Previously, the man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for qualified murder and was banned from Hungary for 10 years. The incident occurred in November 2022, shortly after the man arrived in Budapest for work. Following the assault, he concealed the victim's body in a suitcase and hid it in a remote area near Lake Balaton before being arrested the next day. The defendant has appealed against the verdict, while the prosecution maintains its request for a longer sentence.
