Supreme Court reduces sentence of "Algarve serial killer" from 22 to 16 years

The Supreme Court of Justice reduced the sentence of 'Kenny', the Algarve serial killer, from 22 to 16 years for the murder of a Brazilian citizen. Initially sentenced to 25 years, the penalty was later adjusted to 22 years by the Évora Court of Appeal. The Supreme Court determined that the evidence did not support a conviction for qualified homicide, which requires proof of special culpability, and thus reclassified the crime as simple homicide. The final sentence includes 14 years for homicide and 2 years for other crimes.
