Stricter regulations on the placement of public advertisements – the decree has been published
The new regulation on outdoor advertising aims to reduce the number of permitted advertising spaces and lower advertising noise in urban areas and along main roads. It restricts the placement of billboards and digital displays to specific zones such as commercial and sports areas, while allowing ads in pedestrian underpasses and metro stations. The regulation bans rotating billboards and limits rooftop advertising to urban residential and mixed-use areas, capping their number and total area. Digital ads cannot be displayed between 10 PM and 6 AM, and static ads must be visible for at least 10 seconds. The regulation takes effect on November 11, requiring owners to remove non-compliant ads by December 31, 2026. The Hungarian Advertising Association supports reducing advertising noise but rejected the proposal due to potential job losses and tax revenue declines.
