Károly Szita, the mayor of Kaposvár, was also recruited, he reported for 9 years.
Károly Szita, the mayor of Kaposvár, was recruited by state security services during the previous regime, as revealed by documents from the Historical Archives of State Security Services. His past as an agent has been previously reported, notably by historian Krisztián Ungváry in 2005 and again in 2018 by Magyar Nemzet. The newly released documents confirm that Szita, under the codename Péter Krakus, was active from July 1, 1980, until May 1989. Szita has denied being an agent, labeling the reports as politically motivated attacks. He has served as Kaposvár's mayor since 1994 and was president of the Association of County Towns until mid-2026. Questions regarding his past and its implications have been sent to him for comment.
