Turkish soldier killed at the border with Iran
On October 31, a Turkish soldier, Yusuf Sait Unlu, was killed by gunfire from Iran while attempting to prevent illegal border crossing near Yuksekova, Hakkari province. He was injured and later died in the hospital. Turkish and Iranian officials met at the incident site to coordinate efforts for clarification. The region has a history of clashes involving armed groups and smugglers, but there is no indication that this incident is linked to the PKK, which is currently engaged in peace talks with the Turkish government.
