Volkswagen has ventured into a new business, now they will also dismantle cars
Volkswagen's Zwickau plant will now also dismantle vehicles to sell usable parts, processing up to 4,100 cars annually from 2027. The facility will operate with around 100 employees in two shifts, initially focusing on pre-series cars that cannot be driven on roads. Extracted parts will be inspected and sold as used Volkswagen parts through dealers and service centers. The company aims to provide more affordable repair options compared to new parts, encouraging repairs over scrapping. However, details on potential savings for car owners and warranty conditions remain undisclosed. The program also emphasizes material recovery, with one dismantled car yielding enough recyclable plastic for parts in three new vehicles. The shift in demand may not be financially beneficial for the company.
