UK: Thousands gather as London switches on its Christmas lights
The famous shopping street in London was illuminated with 300,000 LED lights and 30 angel decorations for its 11th year. Harriet Fisher officially turned on the lights at 6:30 pm, coinciding with Bonfire Night. Traffic was banned for the evening, allowing crowds to enjoy live performances, including bands and a Christmas choir. This year's decorations included words like "Joy" and "Hope" along with new installations. Additionally, visitors at St James's Market could support a food-rescue charity through a Wishing Tree donation initiative.
