Ukraine adopts unified rules for identifying dead civilians and soldiers

The Ukrainian government has established standardized procedures for identifying fallen soldiers and civilians, as announced by Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi. All regional teams will now adhere to uniform rules for examinations and documentation, enhancing cooperation and efficiency. A new coding system aims to ensure accurate records and prevent loss of identity data. The 2027 budget allocates over Hr 600 million for forensic examinations and equipment. The identification process often involves DNA matching, which is complicated by the challenges of retrieving bodies from conflict zones. Presidential Office head Kyrylo Budanov noted that over 26,000 bodies have been returned from Russia, with many still unidentified.
