A cyberattack exposes the medical and financial data of nearly one-fifth of Moldova

Moldova has experienced its worst cyberattack, compromising personal data of around 450,000 citizens. The attack occurred between October 19 and 23, affecting at least ten state institutions. President Maia Sandu acknowledged the severity of the breach, which includes sensitive medical and financial information. The government warns that this data could lead to identity theft and fraud. An initial estimate suggested up to 750,000 individuals might be affected. The National Security Council has been convened to address security failures, revealing issues in the information exchange systems that failed to verify user identities adequately.
