The rule of law bill passed by the Senate without amendments. Now its fate will be decided by the president.

The Polish Senate approved a law aimed at restoring the independence of judges by nullifying resolutions from the National Judiciary Council made between 2018 and 2026. The law, pending presidential approval, seeks to eliminate mass requests for judges' disqualification and expedite case processing. It also proposes the abolition of the Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs Chamber of the Supreme Court and the extraordinary complaint institution, while strengthening cassation complaints. Judges appointed under contested resolutions will return to previous positions, with exceptions for newly appointed judges whose status will be confirmed. The opposition hopes the president will not sign the law.
