Suspect confesses to attempted murder of Iranian publicist in Haarlem

One of the six suspects in a failed assassination attempt on Iranian activist Siamak Tahmasbi in Haarlem admitted to coming to the Netherlands to commit murder for hire. The trial began today in a high-security courtroom at Schiphol. Mehrez A., born in Tunisia, confessed to the court that he intended to kill someone but claimed he did not know Tahmasbi. The police intervened when Tahmasbi reported suspicious individuals near his home. The AIVD suspects Iranian involvement in the assassination attempt, as Tahmasbi frequently criticized the Iranian regime online. The suspects are viewed as international criminals willing to kill for money, with the prosecution set to present demands next week.
