WIA inflow of mothers peaks two years after birth
Research from Leiden University reveals a significant increase in WIA registrations among women two years after their first childbirth, primarily due to mental health issues. The study indicates that over 40% of new mothers facing long-term disability have psychological problems. Additionally, the rise in WIA registrations is notably higher among mothers with lower socioeconomic status. Previous studies in other countries have shown similar trends, but this research aims to provide insights specific to the Netherlands. Future qualitative research is planned to explore the underlying causes of this phenomenon more deeply.
